About Me

In March 2009, I graduated from the University of Oregon with my journalism degree in public relations and communication studies. In the past year, I’ve taken advantage of as many opportunities as possible to experience public relations. I’ve had five unpaid internships ranging from the nonprofit sector to a public school district. I was also a  member of UO’s 2009 PRSSA Bateman Case Study Competition team, for which four other team members and I created and implemented a college readiness campaign and event for 300 middle school students. I also gained valuable skills in feature writing, Web site design and Adobe Captivate during my internship intern with Portland Public Schools this summer.

Although I have yet to find my full-time career, I keep myself engaged in public relations through my part-time job as an assistant manager at maurices, a women’s retail clothing store. Coordinating the corporate-wide Rescues & Runways initiative for my store has been an amazing opportunity to apply my PR and event planning skills in the real world.

Most of my experience is in the nonprofit and education sectors, but I am eager to work for a PR agency. I am interested in the fast-paced atmosphere and wide range of work agency PR has to offer.

From the time I graduated to where I am today, I have learned to accept changes and disappointments. Public relations is not a career for the weak-minded and unmotivated.

I am blessed for the opportunities that have come my way and proud of what I have done with them. I strongly believe that having a positive attitude and desire to always improve will take me to great places.

    Courtney,

Great Blog – full of good information.

I am the author of the book that you kindly mentioned and I wanted to draw your readers attention to a youtube clip of that interview on the Today Show.

Hope it gives people useable tips in these difficult times.

Great blog. You write very well, I was really impressed. You are all grown up, I’m a little sad. Great now I feel old!
